How to convert Windows sample files for use on a Macintosh ?

Method One:

This conversion program allows you to convert an entire folder full of sample files that were originally created on a Windows machine, then transferred to a Macintosh.

To use this program, perform the following steps:
1. Double-click on the "Sample File Win to Mac" icon. This launches the program.
2. A standard folder select dialog appears asking you "Where are the files to convert to Macintosh format?"
3. Navigate to the folder containing the sample files you wish to convert . Remember that the window files will be over-written.
so if you wish to retain a copy of trace files in windows format please duplicate the folder.
4. Click on the "Select" button. If there are no problems, the program will perform the task and automatically quit. When you open the folder, you should see double-clickable sample files with the appropriate Sequencing Analysis (or GeneScan Analysis) icons.

Method Two(Thanks to Wolf Zuckert from A. Barbour's Lab):

Alternatively, you could convert the *.ab1 files while you are downloading them. The proper configuration of FETCH is crucial.

To convert the file types, we need to customize Fetch first.
1. Open Fetch 3.0.3 or later
2. Select Customize menu
3. Select Suffix Mapping
4. Select add
5. The suffix mapping editor will pop up
please fill in the following:
enter suffix = .ab1 (notice the last character in the extension is the numeric number one)
type = ABI1
creator=ABI1
name for this type of file = abi 3x00
6. once the setup is complete, you will be able to view the trace files via Editview provided by ABI.
